Building Your Financial Foundation: Budgeting, Stability & Your First Step Toward Investing
April 28th, 6–7 PM – Facilitated by Express Credit UnionThis is the first class of a three-part series. Register and attend all three classes and you’ll be entered to win one of two $100 Visa Gift Card, announced at the end of the third class.
This class focuses on the essential building blocks of financial wellness. Participants will learn how to create a budget they can stick to, build an emergency fund, and develop positive cash flow—key steps before beginning to invest. We’ll talk about habits and behaviors that support long‑term stability, including automating savings. We will end with an understanding on how prioritizing paying down debts, building your emergency fund, and setting goals is essential before investing. Participants will also be invited to meet with an Express financial counselor for personalized planning.
Investing for Beginners: Simple Concepts, Real Possibilities
Monday, May 18th, 6–7:30 PM (Virtual) – Facilitated by Blake Barr, CFP®Perfect for true beginners, this session breaks down investing into simple, approachable language. We’ll cover basic vocabulary (stocks, bonds, diversification), why investing matters (inflation & compound growth), and how people typically invest at different life stages. Includes a live Q&A.
Understanding Your Investment Options: Plans, Products & How to Get Started
Monday, June 22nd, 6–7:30 PM (Virtual) – Facilitated by Blake Barr, CFP®This class helps participants understand investment product basics and account types that are available. Blake will explain employer‑sponsored plans vs. individual accounts, Roth vs. pre‑tax contributions, and help you understand what investment products like mutual funds and ETFs are. Participants will also learn when and how a financial planner can be helpful, what to look for in a planner, and examples of low‑barrier ways to begin investing. Includes a Q&A and raffle.
