How do I become a member of Express CU?

It's easy to become a member of Express Credit Union – any resident of Washington State is eligible to join. The first step in becoming a member is completing a membership application, which you can do online >, at the main branch >, or one of our nonprofit partner sites >.

To complete the membership application, you will need:

  • A government issued photo identification card from the United States or Mexico
  • To open an interest-bearing account, you will need either a social security number or taxpayer identification number (ITIN) issued in the United States.
  • A minimum of $5 to open a savings account

How much does it cost for me to become a member?

You can open a savings account with a minimum of $5, which has to stay in the account at all times. There is no monthly fee for a savings account, and you have access to a free ATM card. Once a member, you have access to other savings accounts, checking accounts and low-cost loans.

Do I need to have a lot of money to have an account?

No! You can open a savings account with $5. Once you're a member, you have access to a wide range of products and services that are low-cost and specifically designed to meet your short term needs and plan for the future. Express CU is committed to serving all members of our community regardless of the amount of money in their account.

How can I apply for a loan?

Express offers many types of loans to fit your specific needs. There are 3 ways you can apply for a loan:

  1. You can complete the loan application online here >. A loan officer will contact you after the application has been submitted.
  2. You can pick up and complete a loan application at the main branch >.
  3. You can schedule a time to meet with one of our Community Member Service Representatives at the office of one of our nonprofit partners. My card was lost or stolen – what should I do?

If you think your card has been lost or stolen, immediately call Express Credit Union at 206-622-1850. We will cancel the account number and we'll reorder you a new card and PIN right away. After regular business hours call: 1-800-682-6075.

How do I open an account?

How do I enroll in direct deposit?

Direct deposit is a safe and convenient way to have your paycheck or government check deposited directly into your account. To enroll, talk to your employer to see if they can process your paycheck via Direct Deposit. You will need to give them the Express Credit Union routing number 325081704 and your account number.

If your check is from the government, you will need to use either a Federal Direct Deposit form > or a State Direct Deposit form. For all others, you will need to ask your employer how to enroll in direct deposit.

How do I sign up for online banking?

To sign up for online banking, go to the "Sign Up for Online Banking" page here >. You will need your account number and other personal information to create a User ID and password. Be sure to choose a User ID and password that you can easily remember – you will need them each time you log into online banking.

How can I check my account balance?

You can check your account balance several different ways.

  • By signing up for online banking, you can have access to your account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will be able to check your account balance online and do many other transitions.
  • You can call Express at 206-622-1850 between 9AM and 5PM Monday through Friday and a Member Service Representative will be happy to help you.
  • Call 206-622-2085 for our automated teller system 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.

How do I sign up for online bill pay?

We do not currently provide online bill pay service. More information will be provided when it becomes available Fall 2009.

Is online banking safe?

Yes, online banking is a safe and convenient way to access your account. There are a couple of things to remember when you use online banking. First, do not share your User ID or password with anyone. Always protect your account numbers, card numbers and PINs (personal identification numbers) and never keep your PIN with your ATM/Debit Card. Also, never share your information with someone over the phone or through email – Express CU has all of your account information and will never ask you for your account number or PIN over the phone or by email. If you suspect unauthorized activity has occurred on your account, please contact us immediately at 206-622-1850.

What is the difference between a credit union and a bank?

Banks and credit unions are financial institutions that help people keep their money safe. Although the services (checking and savings accounts, loans, etc.) that each offers are similar, there are several differences between the two types of financial institutions.

What is a Community Member Service Representative?

Community Member Service Representatives (CMSRs) bring Express Credit Union services to your neighborhood. CMSRs maintain regular hours at local community based organizations and can help you become a member of the credit union, enroll for direct deposit, apply for a loan, and refer you to a financial education class. Our community member service representatives maintain regular hours at the offices of 8 nonprofit organizations in King County. Members can schedule appointments or drop by the office of these member service reps. Please note that cash transactions are not available at these locations. How can I find out about financial education classes?

We believe that financial education is a core part of our mission to help our members build assets and financial stability. Through our community partners we offer a variety of financial education classes that are free to members of Express CU. Classes cover a variety of topics like how to build a budget, use credit cards wisely, or establish good credit.

Classes are held at different nonprofit community centers around King County. They are taught by experienced teachers who provide you the opportunity to learn at your own pace. For a complete list of classes, including the location and dates/times, click here >.

What is Shared Branching?

Shared Branching is a unique benefit that many credit unions provide to their members, and Express is excited to offer it to you. Credit unions that participate in the Shared Branching network agree to handle financial transitions for members of other participating credit unions with no added fee. For example, Express Credit Union members can deposit a check at the branch of another credit union like BECU. BECU processes the transaction on our behalf; your money stays safe and is directly deposited into your account at Express. It is a safe and very convenient way to have access to your money. Which ATMs can I use?

Express Credit Union members can use ATMs that bear the CO-OP logo, which looks like this:

ATMs that bear that logo are part of a wide network that allows members of credit unions to use ATMs for free. Through this network, you have access to ATMs that are owned and operated by other credit unions, such as BECU – giving you access to several hundred ATMs in the Puget Sound area alone. Nationwide, there are nearly 30,000 ATMs that are part of the CO-OP network, which means you'll always have quick and convenient access to your money.
